Kazakhstan is continuing large-scale infrastructure projects in education as instructed by the Head of State. The key goals are to eliminate three-shift schooling, address the shortage of student seats, and replace outdated school buildings.
Across the regions, 232 new schools are under construction, providing a total capacity of 267,000 students. This year, 105 schools with 157,000 seats have already been put into operation, including 71 schools under the national project "Keleshek mektepteri". Most new schools are located in Turkistan, Mangystau, Almaty, Aktobe, and Zhambyl regions.
The national initiative envisions 217 schools with 460,000 seats, more than 40% of them in rural areas. New schools feature expanded facilities and modern equipment, including STEM labs, robotics classrooms, choreography halls, co-working areas, and up to four sports halls.
In parallel, modernization of 1,000 schools in small towns, district centers, and villages is ongoing, upgrading facilities, furniture, libraries, cafeterias, and security systems.
The next stage will introduce a unified modern school infrastructure standard, including facade upgrades, roof repairs, engineering system renewal, landscaping, and green spaces.
