Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy plans to launch 68 power generation projects totaling 6.7 GW by 2029, Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov announced at a government meeting.
Last year alone, the country commissioned 770 MW of new capacity, including 608 MW of traditional sources and 163 MW from renewable energy facilities.
In 2025, over 621 MW are expected to come online, comprising 166 MW of conventional power and nine renewable energy projects. By 2027, around 1.5 GW will be added, including 573 MW from 13 renewable facilities.
In 2028, more than 2 GW of new capacity is planned, with 245 MW coming from renewables.
By 2029, Kazakhstan will fully meet its electricity demand and achieve an energy surplus, strengthening the country’s export potential, the minister stated.
