About 1.4 billion tenge has been allocated from the Government reserve fund for the reconstruction of a protective dam in the village of Teplichnoye in the Kyzylzhar district of the North Kazakhstan Region. The corresponding resolution was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
The works are being carried out as part of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instructions to strengthen flood protection infrastructure.
The reconstruction aims to increase the reliability of the structure and ensure full protection of the settlement. The project also includes road restoration, installation of reinforced concrete slabs, a drainage system, and landscaping. After completion, the dam level will correspond to the peak flood level recorded in 2024.
The project will protect Teplichnoye, a village of about 1,000 residents, during flood season.
The government continues its comprehensive efforts to protect settlements from floods. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, 57 projects are being implemented across six regions — Akmola, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan. Forty of them have already been completed, and 221 km of levees have been built or reinforced, representing 91% of the planned work.
The protective dam in Teplichnoye was originally commissioned in 1980. Its initial length was 380 meters, with an average width of 11 meters and height of 4 meters. During the 2024 spring floods, a state of emergency was declared in the Kyzylzhar district due to the overflow of the Yesil River, which damaged the dam. Restoration works carried out in 2024 increased the length of the structure.
