The number of social entrepreneurs in Almaty has reached 155 as the city continues to develop its support system for social business, QazMonitor reports.

According to the city’s Department of Entrepreneurship and Investments, 155 businesses have been included in the official registry of social enterprises. The registry is an electronic database of individual entrepreneurs and legal entities recognized for addressing socially significant issues, including job creation for vulnerable groups and the provision of educational, cultural, and other public services.

Social enterprise status provides access to government support measures, including grants of up to 5 million tenge, subsidized premises, and preferential lending through development financial institutions.

Since 2022, authorities have received 535 applications for inclusion in the registry, of which 155 were approved. Social enterprises operate in sectors such as education, healthcare, light and food industries, and environmental services.

State support has resulted in 81 entrepreneurs receiving grants totaling 369 million tenge. Additionally, 26 entrepreneurs were provided premises at a preferential rate of 0.1 MCI per square meter per month, while two businesses received concessional loans through the Damu Fund.

Social enterprises have created 307 jobs, and tax revenues to the Almaty budget reached 385 million tenge in 2025.
