During her working visit to Rome, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva presented the monograph “Shokan Ualikhanov and the Birth of Modern Kazakhstan”, released to mark the 190th anniversary of the prominent Kazakh scholar. The book has been published in Italian for the first time.
Balayeva congratulated the contributors and noted that introducing Ualikhanov’s legacy to Italian readers strengthens cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Italy. She emphasized that Ualikhanov’s works helped bring the history and culture of Central Asia to the global academic community, and their translation into Italian will allow readers to gain a deeper understanding of Kazakh history and identity.
The Minister expressed gratitude to experts from both countries and highlighted the importance of continued academic cooperation.
The book was written by Italian professor Federico Pastore, who has spent many years studying Kazakh archival materials and historical sources. It also includes a section dedicated to other notable Kazakh figures associated with Ualikhanov.
The monograph was published by Sandro Teti Editore with support from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Italy and sponsorship from Caspian Neft JSC and the Doscar Foundation. The research is also available in English.
