Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s Cadet Wins Two Awards at Film Festival in France

The jury prize was shared with a film by New Zealand director Callum Devlin

Kazakh director Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s film Cadet has won two awards at the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival in France, QazMonitor reports.

The film received the Critics’ Prize as well as the Jury Prize. The latter award was shared with The Weed Eaters by New Zealand director Callum Devlin.

Cadet tells the story of a single mother, Alina, who enrolls her son Serik in a prestigious military school. Pressure from teachers and bullying by classmates gradually change the teenager and lead to severe consequences.

The film had its world premiere in 2024 at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
