Reconstruction of the iconic Medeu high-mountain sports complex is set to begin in Almaty. According to the city’s Department of Construction, preparatory work is currently underway. The project includes the installation of a new ice refrigeration system, complete replacement of engineering networks, and gasification of the facility.
An AI-based ice monitoring system will help reduce energy consumption by 25%, while heated spectator seats with individual temperature controls will enhance comfort.
The hotel located in the eastern wing will be redesigned to meet four-star standards, and a modern rehabilitation center will be built for athletes and guests.
The renovated complex will also feature a 3D interactive museum, a 900-square-meter terrace on the western stand with coffee shops and seating areas, and a SUN-DECK recreation zone above the underground parking lot. Additionally, an outdoor heated pool will be constructed.
The surrounding area will be transformed into an eco-park with walking trails, panoramic views of an artificial waterfall, the Malaya Almatinka River, and the mountains. Two new pedestrian bridges — eastern and western — will connect the main facilities of the complex with the new recreation zones.
The reconstruction is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
