Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov took part in an international conference on innovative technologies in hydraulic engineering, transport infrastructure, environmental engineering, and mining. The event was organized by QazInnovations together with the ministry and Germany’s HUESKER.
“Innovation in water management is not just a matter of technology; it is a matter of food security, the sustainability of the agricultural sector, and the rational management of natural resources. Climate change demands completely new approaches from us — modern, efficient, and long-lasting solutions. Today, Kazakhstan is going through an important stage in the development of the water sector. We are carrying out a large-scale transformation of the water industry, focusing on several key areas: improving the regulatory and legal framework, modernizing water infrastructure, introducing water-saving technologies, and developing transboundary cooperation,” noted Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
The ministry is already working with HUESKER through a pilot project in the Zhambyl region. On the Utemis canal, the INCOMAT geotextile system demonstrated reduced water loss and improved resource management, confirming the technology’s potential for wider application.
