Kazakhstan’s national robotics team has claimed first place at the FIRST Global Challenge 2025 in Panama City, marking the country’s fourth consecutive victory at the international competition. Teams from 190 countries took part in the event.
Kazakhstan also won the tournament’s two top awards:
Grand Challenge Award (gold) — for achieving a record-breaking score in qualification matches
Albert Einstein Award (gold) — for engineering excellence, technical skills, teamwork, and leadership
This year’s team included ninth- and tenth-grade students from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Almaty–Medeu: Rashat Dosymzhan, Daulet Iliyas, Alikhan Orynbasarov, Madiyar Asetuly, and Nurasyl Tursymbayev. The team was coached by Dulаt Baitulenov, Nurdaulet Dosmagambet, and Asylbek Murzakhmetov.
Kazakhstan has won the global competition every year since 2022, with victories in Geneva, Singapore, Greece, and now Panama — an unprecedented achievement in the history of the FIRST Global Challenge.
“We have proven to the world that Kazakhstan is not only a country of natural resources, but also one of intellectual potential and high technology. It is important to note that the team line-up has never been repeated — every year new students defend the honor of the country,” said Asylbek Murzakhmetov, head of the USTEM Foundation.
The theme of the 2025 competition, Eco-Equilibrium, focused on global environmental challenges and biodiversity conservation. The Kazakh team designed a robot capable of clearing obstacles and accurately placing biodiversity units across the field, completing the final challenge to earn the maximum points.
