Altyn Dan 1 agricultural cooperative in the Raiymbek district of Almaty Region has begun supplying potatoes to PepsiCo, one of the world’s leading food and beverage corporations.
This year, local farmers cultivated 2,300 hectares, harvesting 200–250 centners per hectare thanks to modern irrigation and intensive farming technologies. PepsiCo has provided elite potato seeds and supported the introduction of innovative watering systems across 150 hectares.
Almaty Region Akim Marat Sultangaziev announced that the PepsiCo plant is nearing completion and will be launched in the first quarter of next year. He said the partnership ensures a stable market for farmers and serves as a model for other regions.
Cooperative chairman Dulat Kulmamirov noted that the state subsidized 80% of the irrigation system costs, totaling about 100 million tenge ($200,000). A seed farming facility is also planned for 2025 to strengthen food security and improve potato quality.
Regional authorities are also considering building a 10,000-ton storage facility, with the PepsiCo partnership seen as a major boost for local agribusiness and the region’s investment appeal.
