At the Korea International Water Week forum in Daegu, organized by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment of the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Aslan Abdraimov and Korea’s Vice Minister Kum Han Seung signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in AI-based flood forecasting and early warning.
The MoU outlines collaboration on modern monitoring systems, digital platforms, and AI algorithms designed to improve forecast accuracy, detect hydrological risks, and strengthen response mechanisms. The parties also agreed to pursue joint research projects, exchange experts and technologies, and support the practical adoption of innovative solutions in national water management systems.
Abdraimov noted that integrating AI into Kazakhstan’s water sector aligns with the President’s directives, and Korea’s expertise in flood modelling will help enhance the country’s flood-mitigation efforts.
The Vice Minister also met with representatives of Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) to discuss further cooperation. Earlier this year, Kazvodkhoz concluded a separate MoU with K-Water under instructions from Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
