Kazakhstan and China are considering the establishment of a joint college to train specialists for the water management sector, QazMonitor reports.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the project includes developing the organizational and legal framework of the college and coordinating educational programs based on the needs of the water sector. Training will focus on key technical specialties.

The college is expected to introduce a dual education model combining classroom studies with practical training at water management facilities. Chinese partners will participate in curriculum development, laboratory equipment, and professional training programs.

Academic mobility is also part of the initiative. The project предусматривает short-term internships, specialized study modules, as well as discussions on the recognition of graduates’ qualifications and their employment in the water sector.

Lyazzat Dzhussipova, Director of the Department of Scientific and Innovative Technologies at the Ministry, said the project will be financed by the Chinese side. The college aims to train qualified workers and mid-level specialists and improve the skills of current industry employees.

As part of cooperation with China, Kazakhstan continues to send specialists for training abroad. In 2026, 200 Kazakhstani professionals will study in China with funding from Power China. In 2025, similar programs were completed by 125 specialists.
