The draft of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution has been completed, QazMonitor reports, citing a meeting of the Constitutional Commission.
The updated document has been submitted to the head of state for consideration. Commission members stated that a date for a nationwide referendum may be announced in the near future.
Elvira Azimova, Chair of the Commission and Head of the Constitutional Court, confirmed that work on the draft has been finalized.
“The referendum will allow every citizen of Kazakhstan the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right and express their opinion on the draft,” she said.
If a decision is made to hold a referendum, the formal phase of the commission’s work will be concluded.
“The commission members will continue their explanatory work, and meetings with the public will continue,” Azimova added.
The draft text will be published in the media and on a dedicated Telegram channel.
