Midfielder Gleb Makridov of FC Shakhter Karagandy will undergo a training stint with Atletico Madrid, QazMonitor reports.
The 19-year-old received a grant for a training camp in Spain after being named the best player of the Freedom QJ League season. The initiative is part of an international player development program implemented jointly with Changan Kazakhstan.
During the season, Makridov played 19 matches, scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists. He set a league record for minutes played (4,502) and total goal contributions (39).
In the offseason, the player trained with Shakhter’s senior squad and scored two goals in friendly matches.
The trip is for training purposes only and does not involve contract negotiations. The club noted that short-term training stints for young players are part of its long-term development strategy.
Founded in 1903, Atletico Madrid is one of Spain’s most successful clubs, having won 11 league titles and 10 domestic cups, as well as multiple European trophies.
