An international precision landing paragliding tournament has started in Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Region, bringing together more than 50 athletes from six countries, the regional akimat’s press service reports. The competition is being held in winter for the first time in the region.

Flights are conducted individually, with the tournament running through February 8. Participants must land on a target with a diameter of 22 centimeters after taking off from a height of 220 meters.

Athletes arrived from the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Syria, Indonesia, Russia, and various regions of Kazakhstan. According to organizers, all competitors are professional-level pilots.

As part of the event, the Visit Zhetysu tourism center organized activities showcasing the region’s tourism potential. A familiarization tour to Tekeli and nearby historical and natural sites is also planned.

According to official data, tourist arrivals in the Zhetysu Region increased by 11% in 2025, including a 60% rise in foreign visitors.
