Almaty Region is continuing the development of its mountain tourism cluster, QazMonitor reports, citing the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.

The government has approved an investment agreement for the Development of the Oi-Qaragai Mountain Resort project in Almaty Region, with implementation scheduled for 2025–2028.

The project предусматривает the creation of a modern, year-round resort with ski, tourism and service infrastructure. Authorities say particular attention is being paid to safety, environmental sustainability and the efficient use of natural resources.

At the current stage, an Austrian contractor has been selected to equip the ski slopes. Construction of the cable car is nearing completion, access roads to the Aktas Plateau have been built, and installation of ski stations and related infrastructure is underway. In 2025, a 5.9-kilometer external gas pipeline was completed to supply the resort’s boiler facility with heating and hot water.

A project roadmap has been approved to coordinate efforts between the investor, the regional akimat and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Once completed, the Oi-Qaragai project is expected to create new jobs, increase tourist flows, support small and medium-sized businesses, boost tax revenues and form a competitive tourism product at the international level.
